At Orchids the International School-Jalahalli, an elite school near Bel Colony, in order to enable our children to have a new experience i.e an encounter with rural lifestyle and environment, a one day picnic was planned for our students from Grades I-VIII. The trip included about 235 students from all the grades visiting the Grameen camp situated in Nelamangla. The students, along with the teachers reached the venue at 10:00 am and were greeted by the volunteers in the camp. They were first provided the morning breakfast. The children were grouped into various batches by making them wear different coloured wrist bands. Each group was handled by a volunteer. Teachers and the students were taken through pottery, tractor ride, the various crops, fruits and flowers grown, village games like marbles, tyre race and lagori etc, toy making, grinding and butter milk churning, free play in the jungle gym and hammock. The lunch and evening milk and snacks arrangement was well appreciated and liked by students and teachers alike. Though the trip continued till evening 4:30pm, the cool breeze and environment kept the children engaged. The children enjoyed the bumpy tractor ride also. It was a fun learning experience for the children.
