Orchids- the International School, Thane undertook a cleanliness drive with full
vigor and zeal on 5th August 2016. The drive was in accordance to the nation-wide Swachh Bharat Cleanliness Campaign launched by honorable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. In tune with the lines “charity begins at home” everyone owned the major responsibility to keep the school’s each nook and corner clean.
During the last two periods, the students of grade IV to IX rolled their sleeves up to dust their classrooms, to clean the lockers and clean the corridors. The responsible Orchidians felt no shame to take the challenge to make their school spotless with no dirt, no dust and no bad odor.
As soon as the bell rang, the students took the charge of their classrooms. They grabbed the mops, brooms to sweep the dust away. All the waste papers lying down the floors were picked up and thrown into the dustbins. From the ceiling to the floor, from the door at the entrance to the window-side flowerbed, each wall was wiped away of dust by the students. The lockers were emptied and arranged systematically. The desks on which they write were wiped with the cloth. The computer trolleys were made dust-free. The tiny hands shouldered great responsibility with a feeling of ownership towards their school and class. The drive portrayed nothing but a bond of love and care like a family who in unison one day gear to clean the sweet home.
Cleanliness is next to godliness. Owing to this quote, the students understood the importance of maintaining the school premises free of clutter. The whole drive was quite inspiring and motivating for the staff and students. The students realized that any work is best done when it is carried out by a person himself. It also made the students aware of the dignity of labor. With the support of all the house-keeping staff OIST strives to be clean and hygienic school. Once the surrounding is clean, the shaping minds feel fresh and excited to learn. Through such activities the school regularly strives to imbibe hygienic and healthy habits, organizational and orderliness skills.
