The traditional Hindu festival, Ganesh Chathurthi celebrated on the birthday of Lord Ganesha invokes the presence of Ganesha using the statue that is temporarily erected in every locality. At Orchids The International School in Mumbai, the celebration of “Green Ganesha” brought about an awareness of the water pollution caused by the immersion of Ganesh idols.
The pre primary class on 7th September 2013 was indulged in making eco-friendly Green Ganesha to curb water pollution and the loss of marine life because of Ganesh idols. The event started with Aarti of Ganpati bappa following a short speech and a power point presentation on the benefits of Green Ganesha. Both the parents and teachers were taught to make Green Ganesha idols which they carried them home with a big smile on their faces.
