Teachers can change lives with the right mix of chalk and challenges:
Alexander the Great, who at a young age led the Army to conquer the better part of the world, was shaped by his teacher Aristotle. Aristotle was Alexander’s friend, philosopher and guide, and accompanied him on his expeditions. Aristotle guided Alexander to ask the right questions when he faced a problem. This was indeed a very valuable skill at a time when one had to rely on people for information. Alexander owes his victory and achievement in abundant measure to his master, Aristotle.
In our world of information technology where knowledge of the world is a button away the teacher’s role has changed from a purveyor to a facilitator who guides the students in coping with the flood of information coming their way. The teacher’s role has changed to designing learning experiences that help students understanding concepts and own the knowledge they construct. Good teaching is as much about passion as it is about reason. It is about caring for the craft, having passion for it, and
conveying that passion to everyone, most importantly to the students.
