A man with this ideology and courage to reflect it into his actions, deserves to be the Father of a Nation. A life does not become ideal for thousands overnight. There has to be a lot of blood and sweat behind it. Many movements took place when India was under the shackle of British rule. The zeal in Indians was enough to shake the foundation of the British Government. But, the movements were not organised. Since Gandhiji started gathering Indians under shade and forming structured movements, British rulers started seeing the end of their oppression in India. Now, you know why a nation celebrates a man every year. This great soul took birth on 2nd of October. We celebrate the 2 October as Gandhi Jayanti. The entire country remembers his unyielding zeal and unwavering determination. 

Why Do We Celebrate Gandhi Jayanti?

India is a country that has experienced continuous oppression for almost two hundred years. This foreign exploitation knew no bounds and it would have been the same if Indians did not protest at their loudest. As everything requires a flag-bearer to show the path, the Indian freedom struggle was no exception. Gandhiji, also known as Bapu (the father), was one of those flag bearers. When British rulers were crushing Indians under their boots with heavy taxes and many other oppressions, Gandhiji appeared as a guiding light and showed the right path to the nation. Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti is therefore significant to every Indian. We pay homage to this great soul who gave a large part of his life to redeem Indians from a period of continuous enslavement.

Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated on 2nd October. All educational institutes commemorate this day to make children understand the importance of Gandhiji in India. Let us discuss some facts about Gandhiji and his contribution to the freedom struggle.

Ans. The name itself is pretty self-explanatory. This movement started with the leadership of Gandhiji against the most oppressive Rowlatt Act. It was a strong protest against the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. People from every religion took part in it and boldly proclaimed that they would not cooperate with any policy issued by the British Government. As all the policies were directly destructive to the Indian citizens, Gandhiji stepped forward to abolish them.

Ans. Non-cooperation movement started on 5 September 1920.

Our nation celebrates the birthday of the Father of the Nation. Therefore, it is a national holiday. This day reminds us of his great sacrifices and how we are enjoying the sweet taste of liberty today. Gandhi Jayanti 2022 is a Sunday. It does not reduce the importance of the date as that is a holiday anyway.
