The Puppy and I poem is about the poet who meets a man who asks the poet to accompany him as he is going to the village to get some bread. The poet refuses, then the poet meets a horse, and he speaks with the horse, and the horse asks if the poet wants to join him as he was going to the village to get hay. The boy refused the horse. The poet meets a puppy next, and the Puppy tells him he will be going up the hills to roll and play. On hearing the puppies plans, the poet replies that he would join the Puppy to play up in the hills.
