NCERT Solutions for Class-3 Chapter-3 Poem: Bird Talk


The Bird Talk class 3 English poem by Aileen Fisher describes a conversation between two birds, obin and jay. The birds sitting in the garden one day talk about people and the way they grow and don’t have feathers. People don’t eat beetles, nor do they eat wings, so the robin and jay think that people are funny to be this way. The Bird Talk poem allows the students to think about the difference between animals and human beings.

Chapter 3: Bird Talk

Reading is fun

Question 1 : Name the two birds in the poem.

Answer : The two birds mentioned in the poem are Robin and Jay.


Question 2 : What are the three things that people can't do?

Answer : People don't have feathers, and they cannot eat beetles. People can't grow wings either.


Question 3 : What do birds think of people?

Answer : Birds think people are funny the way they are.


Talk Time

Question 4 : Imagine what two elephants would say to each other about people.
Let them talk about
– what people look like
– what they eat
– how they walk

Answer : Two elephants talking to each other:
Look how tiny people are!
We can eat so much while people eat so little.
We have four huge legs to walk, and people have only two tiny legs.

Question 2 : Let’s find two things which you can do and the birds can’t do.

Answer : I can write, but birds cannot.
I can draw, but birds cannot.

Let’s Write

Question 1 : Listen to the sounds of the birds. Make a list of these words.

Answer : “Cock-a-doodle-doo” - sound of the rooster.
“Ka- ka- ka” - sound of the crow.

Question 2 : Now write four sentences on birds using the following words:
Nest, water, chirp, fly, sky, wings

Answer : Nest - The bird used small twigs to build a nest.
Water- Most of the birds dip their beaks to drink water
Chirp – Every bird chirp with a different sound.
Fly- Birds can fly unlike humans and many other animals.
Sky - The rainbow in the sky looks beautiful.
Wings - As it rained, the peacock spread its wings.


Question 3 : Write words that rhyme with the words given below.

Answer : day, bay, say.
think, ink, drink.
funny, sunny, money.
eat, sweet, beat.
sing, king, ring.
