In the poem, a baby polar bear named Malu learns various things from her parents. She wants to go and explore the world, but her mother tells her to be patient as she still has a lot to learn. Malu’s mother teaches Malu how to swim. Malu was scared at first, but she was a quick learner. Her mother knew Malu was fearless, brave, and a special bear.

Question 1: Where did the polar bear live with her family?

Answer : The polar bear lived in an icy lair with her family.


Question 2: What did Malu learn to do from her parents?

Answer : Malu learnt from her parents to catch fish that were big or small.


Question 3: Where did Malu want to travel?

Answer : Malu wanted to go far out to play and see the things beyond the big blue sky.


Question 4: What was it that Malu’s parents wanted her to learn?

Answer : Malu’s parents wanted her to learn swimming.


Question 5: Was Malu scared to swim? Did she learn it easily?

Answer : Yes, Malu was a little scared to swim at first since she was not experienced. Eventually, she did learn it easily.


Question 6 : Read the last two stanzas of the poem. Whom does ‘she’ stand for in both?

Answer : In the last two stanzas of the poem, ‘she’ stands for Malu’s mother.

Answer :
A mother bear is teaching her child how to swim. Although the child was very afraid in the beginning, she is now enjoying every moment of this experience. The water is very cold in the polar region, and the baby bear was not ready for this chilling experience.

Answer :


Malu was a brave bhalu. She learnt to catch fish easily. Malu was a little bit afraid to swim in the beginning. Malu trusted and followed her mother, and she was eager to learn more from her mother. Malu was impatient and playful as she wanted to go beyond the blue sky to play.
