Capital Letters: Days, Months, Holidays for Class 2 English

In this concept, the students will learn about adding capital letters to the names of months, days, and holidays. They will also learn when to capitalize days, months, and holidays along with some examples of correct and incorrect usages.

  • The words ‘to capitalize’ means to write the first letter of a word in the capital letter and the rest in small letters.
  • In the English language, a capital letter is used in the first word of any sentence and also for every proper noun.

When to Write the Days of the Week in Capital Letters?

The days of the week are always capitalized. No matter where the days of the week are put in the sentence, they are always capitalized.

When to Capitalize the Months?

Remember, the first letter of the names of the months is always capitalized irrespective of its position in the sentence.

Whenever the names of holidays and festivals come across in a sentence, always capitalize them.

Common mistake:

Remember, only days, weeks, and holidays are capitalized. This doesn’t apply to names of seasons unless they are used as a proper noun in the sentence.
