Human Body Parts for Class 2 Science

In this concept, the students will learn about the Human Body Parts. Here the students will know about external body parts and their functions.

Parts of Our Body:

1) Head and Neck Region:

  • The head is the part of the body above the neck where the eyes, nose, mouth, ears, and brain are located.
  • The front part of the head region is called the face.
  • We recognise each other by looking at our faces.
  • Our face includes a pair of eyes, a nose, a mouth (all are on the front side), and a pair of ears—one on each side of the face.

  • The part that connects the head and the remaining body is called the neck.
  • The functions of the head region and its parts are—
    • Hair protects the head region and gives shape to our faces.
    • We can see and recognise things, persons, etc., by our eyes.
    • Nose helps us smell different things.
    • Ears help us to hear sounds from various sources.
    • Mouth helps in speaking, making noise, chewing food, etc.
    • Neck allows us to turn the head up and down, left and right, and to move the head in circles.

    2) Torso Body Part:

    • This region is located below the head and above the legs. It is also called the torso region.
    • The neck connects the head region with the trunk region. The front part of the trunk region includes the following—
      • Chest: It protects the delicate internal organs like the heart and lungs from external shocks.
      • Abdomen: It is located between the chest and the thighs.
      • Waist: It is the body part between the buttocks and the chest. The waist also contains the belly button.

  • The back part of the trunk includes the following—
    • Back: It helps us to do body movements and keeps our posture proper. We sleep on our backs. We can turn by using our backs.
    • Buttock: It is located at the back of the trunk and above the thighs. It gives us a cushion when we sit on something.

    3) What Are Limbs:

    • These are the extensions of our bodies.
    • The upper pair of limbs, called arms, are connected with the body between the neck and the trunk

  • The different parts of an arm are—
    • Upper arm: It connects the hand with the shoulder.
    • Elbow: It is the link between the upper and lower arm.
    • Wrist: It connects the lower arm with the palm.
    • Palm: It helps to grip things with the help of fingers.
  • We use arms for the following activities—

    • Holding, lifting, pushing, throwing, and sensing things.
    • Hands are used for writing on paper, typing on the computer, playing, swimming, and eating food.
  • The lower pair of limbs are called legs. These are attached to the trunk below the waist.

    The different parts of a leg are as follows—

    • Upper leg: It includes the thigh. The thigh is connected to the waist.
    • Knee: It joins the upper leg with the lower leg.
    • Lower leg: The front part of the lower leg is called the shin, while the back side is called the calf.
    • Ankle: It connects the lower leg with the foot and helps in twisting movements.
    • Foot: The part below the ankle is called the foot. The bottom part of the foot that touches the ground is called the sole. We use our legs for dancing, playing, skating, running, walking, and many other things.

    4) Private Parts:

    • These are the ones through which we urinate and defecate. We cover these parts with our undergarments.
    • We need to clean private parts regularly.
    • If one notices unusual things like rashes or itching, they should inform their parents and consult the doctor.

    5) Skin:

    • Skin is a vital part of our body.
    • It protects all the inner body parts from harmful germs and injury
