Volume By Unit cubes
Cube: A cube is a three-dimensional object with six square faces and all the sides of a cube are of the same length.
Unit Cube: A unit cube is a cube whose each side is 1 unit long.
The volume of a Unit Cube: All sides of a cube are of the same length. A unit cube has all its sides of length 1 unit. So, the volume of a unit cube is
= 1 unit × 1 unit × 1 unit
= 1 cubic unit
So, the volume of the unit cube is one cubic unit.
Solid Shape made of the Unit cube:
Some solid shapes can be made of unit cubes.
Let us discuss this with an example.
Volume of the Solid Shape made of the Unit cube:
When a solid shape is made using unit cubes, then the volume of the shape is equal to the number of unit cubes that make up the shape.
Let us discuss it with examples.
Find the volume of the figures.
In figure (i), there are clearly five-unit cubes.
So, the volume of the figure (i) is 5 cubic units.
In figure (ii), there are clearly six-unit cubes.
So, the volume of the figure (ii) is 6 cubic units.
Shapes made of unit cubes:
There are different shapes made using unit cubes. Here some examples are given below. There are many more shapes possible.
Cuboids and Cubes Using Unit Cubes:
The below figures are an example of cubes and cuboids made using unit cubes.
