The Plant Fairy

Question 1 :

Look at the rubbings made by the others. Are the rubbings of different plants similar?

Answer :

No, the rubbings of different plants are different due to differences in the texture of their leaves and trunks.


Question 2 :

Which leaf gave a good rubbing?

Answer :

The leaves, whose texture is very rough, gave a good rubbing.


Question 3 :

Do all the leaves have similar colours, shapes and margins?

Answer :

No, all the leaves shown in the image are of different colours, shapes, and margins. The leaves show different shades of green. Some of these leaves are purple, yellow and red also. The leaf margins are also different—some have straight or uneven margins while others have saw-like margins.


Question 4 :

In case of which tree was the rubbing of the trunk difficult? Why?

Answer :

The rubbing was difficult on the trees with smooth, soft, and plain-textured trunks (for example, mango tree) compared to the trees with hard and rough trunks. This happened because the hard surface gave imprints very easily.


Question 5 :

Look at the picture and name the things which have patterns of leaves and flowers on them.

Answer :

The list of the things with the patterns of the leaves and flowers in the picture are—

Collect a few leaves of plants like lemon, mango, neem, basil (tulsi), mint (pudina) and coriander (dhaniya). Crush the leaves and smell them. Do they all smell alike? Can you identify the leaves just by their smell?

Answer :

No, all these collected leaves smell differently. Some of the leaves like basil (tulsi), neem, lemon, mint and coriander (dhaniya) can be identified with the help of their distinct smell.


Question 7 :

Can you name the plant on which Didi was sitting?

Answer :

Yes, Didi was sitting on the green grass.


Question 8 :

 Which animals did Poonam see at the pond? Look at the picture and write their names.

Answer :

Yes, I have seen trees like the banyan, mango, and peepal with such big trunks in the park near my home.


Question 9 :

Are there any plants that you have heard of, but never seen? Which ones.

Yes, I will name it “Fragrant Beauty”, because of the aromatic and beautiful flowers.


Question 3 :

Does the tree bear flowers or fruits? Which ones?

Answer :

My friend “Fragrant beauty” bears both fruits and flowers.


Question 4 :

How do the leaves of the tree look?

Answer :

The leaves are long, thin, pointed, and green.


Question 5 :

Do animals live in the tree? Which ones?

Answer :

Yes, some small insects and birds live in the tree. I have seen squirrels on the trunk as well.

Answer :

The Champa tree bears white flowers with yellow centres. These flowers have a pleasant smell and are pretty to look at. The tree sheds its leaves during winter. Many birds build their nests on the branches.
