1) How Will You Separate Sand and Water From Their Mixture?

Sand is immiscible in water and hence, can be separated by the methods of filtration or sedimentation and decantation.

2) Categorise the following options into solutions and mixtures.

Air, soap water, muesli, soda, sugar in water, lemonade, and fruit salad.

  2. Ramesh Suffers From Dehydration. He Takes Electrolyte Water Every Day. While Reaching School, Ramesh Has Already Finished Half of the Electrolyte Solution. He Adds More Water to It and Saves It for the Rest of the Day.

The above-mentioned solutions are of the following types—

  1. Saturated solution
  2. Unsaturated solution

4) Is Milk a Solution?

In a solution, the particles of solute are evenly suspended. However, this is not the case with milk. In milk, the fat particles are not evenly suspended. Hence, it cannot be considered a solution.

5) How Does Pressure Affect the Solubility of a Gas in a Solution?

  • Pressure brings the gas molecules closer to each other.
  • It facilitates the dissolving of more gas particles as a solute in the solvent.
  • Hence, the solubility of a gas increases with an increase in pressure.

6) How Does Temperature Affect the Solubility of a Solute in a Solution?

  • The amount of solute that can be dissolved in a solvent increase with an increase in the temperature.
  • It happens because, with an increase in temperature, the solute molecules' kinetic energy increases, increasing their solubility.

7) Explain if the Given Statement Is Correct or Not—A Dilute Solution Is a Saturated Solution.

  • A dilute solution is a solution that has less concentration of solute and more concentration of solvent.
  • A saturated solution, on the other hand, stands for a solution holding the maximum solute.
  • Hence, the statement— A dilute solution is a saturated solution— is incorrect.

8) What Is an Alloy? Mention Some Examples.

  • A metal made by mixing two or more elements is called an alloy.
  • An alloy is made to obtain a material with greater strength and corrosion resistance.
