Melting Point: Instead of melting, it decomposes at about 560°C or 1,040°F. 

Density: Approximately 1.82 g/cm³.

Hygroscopicity: The compound is hygroscopic in nature and thus absorbs water vapors from the air.

Deliquescence: It can absorb moisture to such a concentration that it dissolves in the liquid absorbed to form an aqueous solution.

Reaction with acids: Calcium nitrate reacts with strong acids to form the nitrogen oxides and soluble salts.

Formation of Calcium carbonate: Mixed with sodium carbonate, it produces calcium carbonate that is not soluble in water.

Thermal Decomposition: Calcium nitrate breaks to give calcium oxide, nitrogen dioxide, and oxygen upon heating

Oxidizing Agent: Although calcium nitrate is an oxidizing agent, it is active as an oxidizing agent only when there is organic material present in a chemical reaction.
