The Early Grade Robotics Program at Orchids International School offers early learners an innovative approach to being involved in robotics through engaging and active fun. For early grade students robotics isn’t about creating elaborate machines at this point, it is about interacting with the way things move, function and respond to instructions through interactive learning.
Students start with simple kits of colourful elements, motors and sensors. They explore how to assemble them to create moving models including cars, animals and small machines, and step by step, begin to write basic instructions for their robots using simple coding functions that are age appropriate.
As they participate in these well-structured experiences, students develop critical problem solving, logical cognitive processes and their creative components are engaged. They build on the teamwork skills they learn; sharing ideas, collaborating and creating solutions together just as engineers do, but at a perfect level for their age.
Our aim is to hook students to technology at an early age and in whatever way possible, so that as they grow up, they have the confidence, curiosity and excitement to explore age appropriate technology learning in the fast-paced and constantly changing world they are growing up in.
