Frequency Formula

What is Frequency?

Frequency refers to the count of the occurrence of a certain value or event in a dataset. It describes the distribution of data and is one of the most important concepts in the field of statistics.

Formula For Frequency

If one considers any wave in terms of wavelength and velocity, the Frequency Formula is given as

frequency formula

Where,

the frequency of the wave is f,

the wave velocity or wave speed is V,

the wavelength of the wave is λ.

If the light wave is considered, then the frequency is given as

frequency formula

Where c is the velocity of light.

Frequency in terms of angular frequency is given as

frequency formula

Where ω is the angular frequency.

The formula of the frequency of a wave is utilized for finding the frequency f, period T, wave speed V, and wavelength λ. Frequency is measured in Hertz (Hz).

Solved Problem:

Following are some questions based on the frequency formula, use them to practice.

The wavelength of a light wave is 500 nm. Find its frequency.

Solution:

Given: Velocity of light, v = 3 ×108 m/s,

Wavelength, λ = 500 nm

Frequency is given by
