In mathematics, the amount of space contained within a two-dimensional shape or surface is defined as area. This can be termed as the amount of flat space inside the figure that is bounded by the boundaries of the shape. It is usually measured in square units such as square meters or square centimeters.

Different shapes therefore have different formulas to calculate its area. For instance, for a rectangle, the area is multiplied by the length and the width, whereas the formula for a triangle's area is half the product of its base times its height. A circle has this formula
