Area Formula for Quadrilaterals

A quadrilateral is a polygon which has four sides, four vertices, and four angles.Angles add up to 360 interior degrees. The general types of quadrilaterals are described here.

  • Rectangle: Opposite sides are equal and all angles are right angles.

  • Square: All sides are equal and angles are all right angles.

  • Parallelogram: Opposite sides are equal and parallel.

  • Rhombus: All sides equal in length. Opposite angles are equal.

  • Trapezoid (or Trapezium): One pair of opposite side parallel

  • Kite: Two pairs of adjacent sides equal

Quadrilaterals come in either the simple form where all the four sides do not cut through one another, and it also comes in complex form where the four sides intersect. Quadrilaterals are the very basic form of geometry. They can be seen in many applications in mathematics, art, and in designing.

Quadrilateral Area Formulas

  1. Area of a Square =

  2. Area of a Kite = (1 ⁄ 2) × Product of Diagonals

  3. Area of a Parallelogram =  Base × Height

  4. Area of a Rectangle =  Length × Breadth

  5. Area of a Trapezoid =
