Basketball Fundamentals
Dribbling – the act of bouncing the ball while you run up court. Dribbling is used to advance the play of the game and allows the player to maintain control.
Shooting – the act of attempting to score points by throwing the ball into the opponent’s hoop. Shooting is one of the most basic basketball skills.
Rebounding – the act of retrieving a ball that has just missed the basket. Missing a shot can be very valuable to a team. Rebounds can be vital part of offensive play and defense.
Defense – the act of guarding your opponent, this means defending to ensure they do not score or have the ability to score. Understanding strategy goes a long way when defending big competitors. Quick reflexes is very important in defence!
Free Throw – An unchallenged basket. A free throw is awarded to a player after a foul has been committed. Free throws are often used to add crucial points, and are an excellent test of accuracy and technique.
