Approximately 261.34 g/mol.

Solubility:

Dissolve in water; solubility increases with temperature

Melting Point:

Decompose about 590 ⁰C or (1,094 ⁰F) rather than melting

Density:

Approximately 3.24 g/cm³.

pH:

Neutral or slightly alkaline for aqueous solutions.

Reactivity

It reacts with sulfide to give barium sulfate and nitrogen dioxide on burning.

Chemical properties

Decomposition:

When heated, barium nitrate decomposes to form nitrogen dioxide  and oxygen.

Reaction with Sulfides:

Barium nitrate reacts with sulfides to form barium sulfide and nitrogen oxides.

Reaction with Hydrochloric Acid:

Barium nitrate reacts with hydrochloric acid to form barium chloride, water, and nitrogen oxides.

Formation of Barium Hydroxide:

When barium nitrate reacts with sodium hydroxide, sodium nitrate and barium hydroxide are formed.

Solubility in Water:

It is soluble in water and is completely dissociated into barium and nitrate ions.

Application

Fireworks:

It is used as a colorant for the emission of bright green flames on heating.

Chemical Production:

It is used as a precursor for the manufacture of other barium compounds like barium oxide and barium sulfate.

Laboratory Reagent:

It is used in analytical chemistry for the detection of sulfate ions and in many synthesis reactions.

Pesticide Industry:

It is used in some formulations as a component for controlling pests.

Radiology:

The barium compounds, which include the usage of barium nitrate, are used to enhance the contrast in the application of medical imaging X-ray images.

Conclusion

This is a very useful compound for pyrotechnics, chemical manufacturing, and even medical imaging applications. The compound can be used in the production of colorful fireworks and as a precursor in the synthesis of other barium compounds. Understanding the chemical properties and reactions involved is essential to using this compound effectively and safely.
