What is a Noun?

A word a name of a person, place, thing, or idea. There are several types of nouns:

  1. Common Nouns – Names general things (boy, city, school, etc.).

  2. Proper Nouns – Names specific people, places, or things (such as Rahul, Delhi, Orchids International School).

  3. Collective Nouns – A word used to describe a group of individuals, animals or things (e.g., a bunch of keys, a flock of birds).

  4. Abstract Nouns –Names an idea, feeling, or quality (e.g. happiness, courage, honesty).

  5. Countable and Uncountable Nouns – Countable nouns are nouns that can be counted (such as apples, chairs); uncountable nouns are nouns that cannot be counted (such as water, sugar).
