Equal Sharing (Division Introduction)
Equal sharing means giving the same number of things to each person so that everyone gets a fair share. If Ria has 12 sweets and she shares them equally among 3 friends, each friend gets the same number of sweets.
Equal sharing is the beginning of learning division. In Class 2, we use sharing to understand how division works.
What is Equal Sharing (Division Introduction) - Class 2 Maths (Division Introduction)?
Equal sharing means dividing a total number of things into groups so that each group has the same number.
Total things ÷ Number of groups = Things in each group
How to share equally:
- Give 1 item to each person, one by one
- Keep going around until all items are given out

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What is equal sharing?
Equal sharing means giving out things so that each person or group gets the same number. Nobody gets more or less.
Q2. How do I share things equally?
Give one item to each person, going round and round, until all items are handed out. Then count how many each person has.
Q3. What if things cannot be shared equally?
If there are items left after sharing, those are called the remainder or 'left over'. For example, 7 shared among 3 gives 2 each with 1 left over.
Q4. Is equal sharing the same as division?
Yes. Equal sharing is how we begin learning division. Sharing 12 among 3 is the same as 12 divided by 3.
Q5. How is sharing different from grouping?
In sharing, you know how many people and find how many each gets. In grouping, you know the group size and find how many groups.
Q6. Why is equal sharing important?
Equal sharing teaches fairness and is the foundation of division. We use it when sharing food, dividing teams, and splitting tasks.
