You must have seen rainwater flowing off a farm and running into a nearby drain or river. That water usually carries soil, fertilizers and pesticides along with it. This whole process is called agricultural runoff. In easy words, it means the water that flows away from farms after rain or watering the crops and takes farm chemicals and loose soil along with it. Instead of soaking into the soil where crops can use it, the water flows into nearby rivers, lakes and ponds. By the time it gets to a river or pond, it is no longer clean water. When it rains, or when fields are watered too much, some of this water doesn’t soak into the ground; it runs off instead.
