What are Means of Transport

Means of transport refers to the different methods or vehicles through which people, animals or goods are transported from one place to another. They help us connect with each other and make movement of goods convenient. There are three main types of transportation including land transport, water transport and air transport. Each of these means are designed for different purposes such as ships to help us navigate in the ocean or sea. Let’s learn about each of them in detail below.

Different Means of Transport

Means of Land Transport: Cars, buses, trucks, scooters, bikes, ambulances, fire trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, trucks, auto-rickshaws and vans are some of the main means of land transport. These means of transport are suitable for short and medium distances. Trains are a means of land transport that runs on railway tracks and covers long distances. 

Some special vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks, police cars, school buses, road rollers, excavators and good trains are used for special purposes. 

• Ambulance: An ambulance is used to take patients to hospitals in case of medical emergencies. 
• Fire trucks: These are rescue vehicles equipped with all the things required to tackle a fire accident. It appears like a truck and has a red-coloured body. A fire engine has a characteristic siren that distinguishes it from other vehicles.
• Road rollers: Used for road construction these vehicles help in pressing the layers of materials used to make roads. It is generally yellow in colour with huge heavy wheels in the front.
• School bus: The vehicle specifically used to transport children to school from their homes and vice versa is a school bus. It is usually yellow in colour, so that it can be easily identified on the roads from a long distance.
• Police car: It is a jeep, generally white in colour with a siren in front. It is used by police personnel for patrolling and chasing criminals.
• Goods train: These trains are used to carry goods from one place to another. They generally have a greater number of wagons so that the goods can be transported in large quantities.

Means of Water Transport: Boats, ships, steamers, yacht, submarine, ferry, sailboat, kayak and cargo ships that transport goods and passengers on rivers, sea, oceans

Means of Air Transport: Aeroplane, helicopter, hot air balloons, rockets, jets and airships are some of the means of air transport.
