What are Three Rs of Waste Management

The three Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle) are an efficient waste management initiative developed in the early 2000s to conserve our natural resources and to save our environment. To minimize the waste production, we must reduce the amount of waste, reuse the products that can be reused and recycle the ones that cannot be reused. Let’s learn how we can follow each of the rules in our daily life.

First Rule - Reduce 

The word resume simply means using less and generating less waste. By creating less thrash we can save our environment from different types of pollutants that cause various health problems. 

Here are some ways we can reduce waste:

• Save water: Do not let the tap run throughout the time while brushing. Turn off the tap when you don’t need water and use it when required. It helps in reducing the wastage of water and saving our precious resource.

• Save electricity: Reduce the amount of electricity we consume by switching off all the lights and fans when we don't need them. For example, if we leave our fans and lights running after we leave home, we are wasting electricity.
• Save Paper: While drawing on paper, if you make a mistake, just erase or draw on the other side again. Don’t throw it without using it completely as saving papers helps in saving trees and other resources used in making it. 

Second Rule - Reuse

Reusing means using something again instead of throwing it. All the things around us that we can reuse such as plastic bottles, cardboard boxes and metal cans which can be resided without any processing can be creatively turned into pots, holders,bags, decoratives, etc.

Third Rule - Recycle

Converting used goods into new products is called recycling. Some things that cannot be reduced or reused are recycled into new products. Aluminum, cardboard steel, glass, paper, e-waste and batteries are different types of materials that can be recycled instead of discarding them as landfills.
