The Solar System

The Sun is the central object of our solar system. Other objects revolving around the Sun include planets, satellites, comets, dwarf planets, asteroids, etc.

8 planets revolve around the Sun. In the solar system, there are some objects which are revolving around planets. These objects are called Natural satellites of the planets. It is also called as moon of the planets. The moons of the planets revolve around the planets as well as the Sun.

The Moons of the Planets

Mercury Moons

It is the smallest planet in the solar system. It has no moons.

Venus Moons

It is the 2nd planet from the Sun. It has no moons.

Earth Moon

We are living on the planet Earth. Earth has one moon. At night we can see the moon in the sky with the naked eye.

The moon is the 5th largest moon in the solar system.

Mars Moons

Astronomers discovered 2 moons of Mars – Phobos and Deimos. Phobos is the largest Moon on Mars.

Jupiter Moons

Astronomers discovered 79 moons of Jupiter. Out of these moons, 53 are officially named moons. The four largest moons of Jupiter - Ganymede, Callisto, Io, and Europa- are called Galilean moons because Galileo Galilei discovered them. Ganymede is the largest moon in the solar system. Callisto is 3rd, Io is 4th, and Europa is the 6th largest moon in the solar system.

Saturn Moons

Saturn has 82 moons. 53 moons have confirmed official names. Titan is Saturn’s largest Moon and 2nd largest Moon in the solar system. Rhea is the 2nd largest Moon of Saturn and the 9th largest moon in the solar system.

Uranus Moons

Uranus has 27 moons. Titania is the largest Moon of Uranus and the 8th largest moon in the solar system. Oberon is the 2nd largest Moon of Uranus and the 10th largest Moon in the solar system.

Neptune Moons

Neptune has 14 moons. Triton is the largest Moon of Neptune and the 7th largest Moon in the solar system.
