Decarbonisation means reducing the carbon dioxide that human activities release into the air from factories, cars and burning coal, oil and gas to generate power. The goal is net-zero, where any remaining emissions are offset by nature or by technologies that remove carbon from the air. We can achieve this by switching from fossil fuels to cleaner energy sources and by adopting more planet-friendly practices. Decarbonisation is one of the biggest challenges of our time, but also one of the biggest opportunities. To really cut emissions globally, energy systems, manufacturing, transportation and government policies have to work together. Society has an opportunity to create a more stable, healthy future. For businesses, it’s both something they need to do and a chance to get ahead. The companies and communities that act early will be the ones best set up to succeed as the world shifts to a cleaner economy.
