What Are Clauses?

In English grammar, clauses are groups of words that contain a subject and a predicate. A clause can stand alone as a complete sentence or add meaning to another sentence. There are two types of clauses, independent and dependent (subordinate) clauses. The dependent clauses are further classified into noun clauses, adjective clauses, and adverb clauses.
